It’s my third day at the Workplace as a Playground. I had two euphoric days enjoying the amazing space, FUNiture, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, having some small talks with different people. Today I feel strange. Thoughts bounce forth and back in my mind.

We (as everybody else) were well aware of the dreadful start-up failure statistics. It goes like this: 9 out of 10 start-ups fail. Moreover, we were going to enter a highly competitive market. Therefore, we decided that we had to be a smart-up, not a start-up, if we wanted to succeed.
As already discussed in my article Start-up VS Smart-up: Is there a magic formula for startup success, according to CB Insights the top three reasons for startup failures are lack of market, cash problems and inappropriate team. They are followed by strong competition, price or cost issues, poor product or business model, and inadequate marketing. “One, two, three…” we jump from the trampoline into the pool. One of our co-players jumps in a way to raise as much water as possible and splash as much people as possible, and… he manages! The water reaches our Coach and in a second he is wet through.
“You bastards!” Coach is laughing, “You did it on purpose!”
Now everyone around the pool giggles. Then Coach waves at me and asks me to have a chat. Thirty minutes later we are walking in our winter garden, caressing the plants. We’ve found out this increases their productivity by 23 %.

Coach was devastated… “It’s not possible,” he thought. It was then, near the peak, it struck him like a lightning bolt: “It was all my fault.”
Well, my dears, maybe it’s better to start from the beginning. I am in the garden, watering the next crop of our experimental plants. There are many people here in the Playground, who are in love with Nature and excited about trying new ways of growing plants. We have a huge experimental garden that looks really cool and futuristic. We are growing many happy plants and our results (no fertilizers, mind you) puzzles agricultural specialists around the world. Here I am walking in the woods near our workplace playground. I am a little bit stuck in a project I am taking part in and walking in the open helps me think more clearly. I see the Mood Improver sitting in the arbor. When he notices me, he smiles and waves. I wave back and sit next to him. I feel it was the right time to hear his story. Our company is growing like a happy plant. I am at the playground now. It looks like a busy bee hive. Some people are having fun trying the new fu(r)niture, others are playing. Several families are here to lunch with some of our co-players. It reminds me that my family, my wife and my three kids, adore coming here. Like all co-players, they do not want to leave this place.
