I enter our “laboratory”. I call it the lab because I can’t think of a better word to describe this enormously large building, strangely shaped and full of weird equipment. It’s much more than one can imagine when thinking of a lab. Continue reading “S02E04 Brainy” →
It’s my third day at the Workplace as a Playground. I had two euphoric days enjoying the amazing space, FUNiture, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, having some small talks with different people. Today I feel strange. Thoughts bounce forth and back in my mind.
„Is this the place I want to be? What am I supposed to do here? Will my boss be OK with me just having fun and not doing any real work?” Continue reading “S02E03 WæP for Beginners” →
We (as everybody else) were well aware of the dreadful start-up failure statistics. It goes like this: 9 out of 10 start-ups fail. Moreover, we were going to enter a highly competitive market. Therefore, we decided that we had to be a smart-up, not a start-up, if we wanted to succeed.
As already discussed in my article Start-up VS Smart-up: Is there a magic formula for startup success, according to CB Insights the top three reasons for startup failures are lack of market, cash problems and inappropriate team. They are followed by strong competition, price or cost issues, poor product or business model, and inadequate marketing. Our intention was to eliminate any possible failure scenario beforehand and invest as little as possible. Continue reading “How did we launch our startup with €200!?” →
“One, two, three…” we jump from the trampoline into the pool. One of our co-players jumps in a way to raise as much water as possible and splash as much people as possible, and… he manages! The water reaches our Coach and in a second he is wet through.
“You bastards!” Coach is laughing, “You did it on purpose!”
Now everyone around the pool giggles. Then Coach waves at me and asks me to have a chat. Thirty minutes later we are walking in our winter garden, caressing the plants. We’ve found out this increases their productivity by 23 %.

Coach was devastated… “It’s not possible,” he thought. It was then, near the peak, it struck him like a lightning bolt: “It was all my fault.”
Well, my dears, maybe it’s better to start from the beginning. I am in the garden, watering the next crop of our experimental plants. There are many people here in the Playground, who are in love with Nature and excited about trying new ways of growing plants. We have a huge experimental garden that looks really cool and futuristic. We are growing many happy plants and our results (no fertilizers, mind you) puzzles agricultural specialists around the world. I’ve heard them say one and the same phrase like 1,000 times: “It’s not possible.” It turns out impossible is our company’s middle name. Continue reading “S02E01 The First (False) Start” →
Here I am walking in the woods near our workplace playground. I am a little bit stuck in a project I am taking part in and walking in the open helps me think more clearly. I see the Mood Improver sitting in the arbor. When he notices me, he smiles and waves. I wave back and sit next to him. I feel it was the right time to hear his story. Our Mood Improver was one of the first guys hired at the playground. I am very curious how he came here and how he can always be in a good mood and “pass it” to other people. Here is what he told me: Continue reading “S01E09 The Story of the Mood Improver (Season Finale)” →
Hi guys, tuning in from the workplace playground. Our Money Manager was а P.manager of a project we had just finished. We were relaxing by jumping from the trampoline in a pool filled with foam rubber chunks. I felt it was the right time to learn more about our Money Manager. Here is his story: Continue reading “S01E08 The Story of the Accountant a.k.a. Money Manager” →
Today I was at yet another interview for my next boring (I shouldn’t be a pessimist) job.
I waited for 25 minutes for somebody to appear and drank my third coffee for the day. I used my time to look around. I saw some remarkable captions hanging here and there: Continue reading “Season 1: Special Episode” →
Our company is growing like a happy plant. I am at the playground now. It looks like a busy bee hive. Some people are having fun trying the new fu(r)niture, others are playing. Several families are here to lunch with some of our co-players. It reminds me that my family, my wife and my three kids, adore coming here. Like all co-players, they do not want to leave this place. But we have one rule in our Play Guide: Don’t overwork overplay! Continue reading “S01E07 The partners” →
Due to technological advancements, it is easy nowadays to push your ideas further and try to develop them. All types of resources and investments are more accessible. As a result, startups spring up like mushrooms, but stormy winds just as easily blow them away. It seems that only 10% of startups have found the magic formula. Many people and organizations try to analyze the reasons for such a high failure rate. Continue reading “Start-up VS Smart-up: Is there a magic formula for startup success?” →
